Paradox

I had read an interesting article some time back..felt I should write about it.

The theme of the article was
"In profesional lives, people rise to their level of incompetency"..

Well well ..I guess thats a heavy statement [:P].. Let me explain what I mean..

Every single person in the professional world, aims at climbing up the order..
If one is performing exceedingly well at the current position, he gets promoted to the next level..
and this goes on..the promotions continue..until..one day..he reaches a position which he is not good at..
He is not not able to fulfil the expected responsibilities ,thus he cant move up further...he is stuck..
He is now doing, what he is not good at..

Isn't this a paradox?? Craving for a successful career, you end up doing what you are not successful at..This wasn't your aim...or was it?

At the same time, unless you take the plunge , try out things, take more responsibilties ..how can you expect to grow...

I found this really tricky and interesting..whats your opinion guys??

  1. yups that true,,, its normal human tendency to climb and gain power and wealth as much as he can, even he is not capable of handling the situation.

And this finally leads to no satisfaction.

maybe to avoid this paradox , we have learn to accept small defeats and vision for a longer run.

Also learn to be happy at small happy occasion. :) keep smiling ....

  2. Hmmmmmm, I guess i can speak at it for 2,3,4,....as many hours. But to put just another perspective here, "people rise to their level of incompetency" is a combination of two factors.

First, "dishonest people always want to rise to the position they do not deserve." - but that is a smaller problem because such people are all over the globe and probably best solution to deal with people is to ignore them. The real peoblem is that the companies allow incompetent people to rise to such levels. Ultimately it's company management's responsibility to identify such people and never let them succeed in their ill intentions. Companies that are successful in doing so have good employee retention rate. Those fail to do so have 100% bad-employee retention rate [:)] but good employees always leave such companies.

  4. Well..craving for success in every endeavor that a person does is what makes the person worthy of being called a human .Afterall the motive of human existence is seeking to better oneself.

everyone must definitely try to climb up the ladder. And I feel that if a person reaches a position where he has to do a job that he is not good at doesn't mean that he is stuck. He can always learn to do the job well. The old adage "Practice makes a man perfect" comes to the person's rescue.

The question of being stuck comes into picture if the person ,even after being good at his job fails to enjoy it.
And due to the absence of this enjoyment , comes the incompetency factor. If you don't enjoy a particular thing , then its not worth doing. It's not necessary that something that is considered a so called "high profile" job would bring happiness to anybody n everybody.

Job satisfaction is a very very personal thing and every one should take time to introspect and find out his/her satisfaction criteria.
